Bought this player at the end of November 2008 along with a Samsung 52″ HD LCD TV. As expected, it operated a little slower than a regular DVD player, but not bad. Picture and audio quality on blu-ray discs was very good, although I didn’t attempt numerous comparisons. Upconversion of regular DVDs was better than expected. On a couple occasions, a particular blu-ray disc would not play properly. But this was easily resolved by upgrading the firmware. Everything was fine until last week. A couple of times I attempted to play a blu-ray disc and the unit would either present an error message that the disc could not be played or would simply revert to “no disc” mode. After multiple attempts, these discs ultimatedly played. But that only lasted for a couple discs. Now it won’t play any blu-ray discs. It will still play regular discs, but that’s of little value given the rest of my home theater setup. I called Samsung support and followed their direction to make sure the firmware was up to date and settings were reset to factory defaults - with no success. Samsung said I would have to send it in to get it fixed at a cost of roughly $150 - not much less than the cost of a new “entry-level” unit.
So this home electronics device lasted about 14 months. I think that’s pretty shabby, and is why I’m now rating it 2 stars.

Bought this in March 2009 and had nothing but problems. Most Blu-ray disks didn’t play. Did the firmware update and then it would not play anything. Sent it back to be fixed (they had me send it to USA Cus. Ser.). Came back still broken and no paperwork inside. Then I had to send to Canada customer service and they won’t pay for shipping. Came back fixed. Played less than 20 times and now it just stopped working again. It is a POS. Do not buy this.

Save your money, do not purchase a Samsung Blu-Ray. Just google the blu-ray player and check out the issues. My 12month old P1500 player is completely dead due to a firmware update that Samsung recommended. I’ve found many others that have experienced the same problem and Samsung’s answer is $85+shipping to fix an issue they created.
Don’t do it… Buy another brand.

This is a great little player for the price. The only regret was that I should have gotten the one with Netflix built into it. Still though, the video and sound quality are ideal.

this player lasted 4 months, just long enough to be out of the warrenty period. of course samsung will fix it for a price. not worth the money unless you want to buy another one in four months.
