 “NOT wifi ready!” 2010-02-01
By Corey Scott (Rocklin, California, United States)
I recieved this blu-ray player today, only to discover that it is NOT “wifi ready”, as the product description says. It is “wifi capable”, if you buy an additional Samsung wireless adapter, which is currently over $70 even on eBay. You can’t even use a 3rd party wireless adapter, you HAVE TO use the one from Samsung. This was a deal-breaker for me, because I specifically purchased this model so I could stream Netflix and not have to run a cable all the way across my house and up the staircase. I promptly packaged it back up and returned it, and will be ordering an LG player for cheaper, with better ratings, and just live with the fact that I will need to run a 100ft ethernet cable to my tv.

 “Great features, terrible Quality” 2010-01-20
By Cliff Armstrong (Austin, TX)
I bought one of these for myself about 6 months ago, liked it a lot, and thought it would be a great gift for my father.

Gave him one for Christmas, set it up and it worked for a day and then stopped working. When turned on, nothing would display on the TV, not even the menu. Checked with Samsung support and they said it needed service so I just returned it and got a new one.

The replacement was much better….for 10 days. Then, inexplicably, it stopped playing regular DVDs. Blu ray and Netflix streaming still worked just fine but it wouldn’t play regular DVDs (tried multiple movies, all in like-new condition). Again went to Samsung support and tried all their suggestions to no avail. They said it needed service.

I still like the one I have - it works great for DVDs, Blu Ray, Netflix and Pandora - but given my experience with the two for my father I wouldn’t recommend this model for anyone.

 “Skip it” 2010-01-18

Bricked after the first disc. Locked up completely. Couldn’t update the firmware, couldn’t reset it, couldn’t even eject the disc. Avoid this unit like the plague.

 “Total Piece of Crap” 2010-01-14
By G. Mackey (NY, NY)
Out of the box this thing wouldn’t play DVDs. Wait … isn’t it a freakin’ DVD player??? I mean, COME ON!!! I just spent almost $200 on this thing and it can’t even do what it was designed to do???

So it gets worse. Out of the box, the Netflix feature didn’t work until we downloaded and installed a system update, which took about a half hour of fiddling around to figure out. But after doing that, we did get the streaming Netflix feature to work.

So then we called India, or Pakistan, or where ever it is that Samsung USA’s customer service help desk is. They told us to send the unit back and they’d fix it at no cost to us so it could play DVDs.

So we did. We shipped the unit to Samsung using their pre-paid shipping label. About a week and a half later the player comes back to us. Guess what? It plays DVDs fine but now Netflix won’t work with it. AGHGH!!! SO ANNOYING!! This thing is a total piece of junk.

I wrote Samsung a note telling them about their terrible product and they sent me back a form letter about how I can trouble shoot the problem. Lousy product and lousy customer service. Awful experience. I give Samsung a D-, barely above an F.

 “Not bad for a first blu-ray” 2010-01-10
By C. Tarr (Florida)
I’ve had the samsung for about three weeks. No complaints so far. It’s hooked to a Sony WEGA (old school HDTV). DVD load time is fine, haven’t loaded any true blu-rays as of yet.

It’s hooked to Brighthouse high-speed at about 10mbps. Connection was easy, initial software upgrade took a few minutes longer than I would have liked but oh well. After that I had Netflix streaming going in about 10 minutes.

Got my Pandora account tied in and it sounds great.

I’ve watched about 6 movies from Netflix, download was quick, so far no issue with the streaming. It’s not the best blu-ray on the market but that’s fine I don’t have a cutting edge receiver or TV either. It does what I want.
