"Bought for Bluray but streaming HD movies are an eye opener" 2010-01-30
By John B.
When we replaced our TV recently, I was happy to be able to get rid of a 11 year old DVD player and get a blu-ray. I picked this one in part because of its media streaming capabilities. After hooking up a long ethernet cable, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy setting it up on the network was and more impressed by all the choices - yes, I’d like still more, e.g. itunes or the network feeds, but nothing short of a PC will do all that so far. We don’t have netflix, but satellite packages with movies and we rent for ones we want sooner. The first blu-ray looked great and noticeably better than ordinary DVD, but it is hard to tell a big difference in our set up between 1080p (Blu-ray) and 1080i HD. And we’ve rented a few films from Amazon a la cart and they worked without a hitch and looked just great in HD. That really increases the value and utility of a blu-ray/DVD player. Unless you have some other media bridge system in your set or otherwise, don’t miss this really great addition.

 "Sony BluRay" 2010-01-27
By Robert D. Beving (Los Angeles)
I purchased this player to be able to download movies and tv shows from Netflix directly to my TV, as well as watching BluRay DVDs. For the download function to work there has to be an internet connection. The distance from the router made a hardwire connection very difficult so I also got a wireless bridge. Once I got that connection set up (a long story and not Sonys fault) it works great. I do have to say however that I don’t see a great deal of difference between BluRay discs and normal DVDs. Both render great pictures on my 40" Sony HD TV. For the price, this unit is a good deal and increases my entertainment choices at a very reasonable cost.

 "Excellent Blu-ray Player" 2010-01-26
By Meggan Sexton (Elkins, WV)
I have been thrilled with this player since getting it for Christmas. The blu-ray load time is not bad, and the picture quality is great. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Netflix streaming feature. Setup and connection to my network was easy and fast. The interface is user friendly and updates are easy. The only problem I’ve encountered is voice sync on regular DVDs. Pausing and unpausing fixes it, but it is a little annoying to have to fix it.

 "FANTASTIC BLU-RAY PLAYER!!!" 2010-01-25
By Danny K (Middletown, New Jersey)

I was the first on the block to get a Toshiba HD DVD and as everyone knows BLU RAY took over! SO I sold my HD-DVD on Ebay and purchased the Sony 460 from a Sony retail outlet. First thing I did was order from Sony the latest UPDATE Free DVD and loaded the latest update. Next thing I did was order the Linksys 160n wireless bridge. Now my review:

PROS:

Fantastic Blu-ray picture
Seems to upgrade my regular DVD’s picture better than my old HD-DVD did.
Remote works beautifully with easy to operate menus.
The Linksys wireless bridge connected perfectly, using the network setting on the Sony player. No software to load! Just hook it up and follow directions on the screen.
Internet streaming is fantastic wirelessly to my network. I can go to Youtube, Netflix, and many more. The picture is better than my ROKU Player!!

CONS:

NONE! I love this machine!

"The perfect Blu-ray player for me" 2010-01-25
By Ed (NJ)
I had put this on my xmas list as a secondary option below the PS3, since I wanted a Blu-ray player, but figured no one would want to drop the full $300 for the PS3 on me. After using this for a few weeks, I must say that I’m actually kind of happy that I didn’t get the PS3. First of all, this player has practically all of the features of the PS3, without the video game aspect (obviously) and bluetooth controls, which benefited be greatly so I can easily use this player with my current Logitech remote. With the bluetooth-only aspects of the PS3, I would have had to buy another accessory from Logitech to make my Harmony work with it. Secondly, it’s a much cheaper unit (we paid way under the current ~$200 pricetag that this currently has on Amazon) and fits into my current entertainment setup much better than the PS3 would have, as this obviously has a component-feel to it, rather than a video game console.

Blu-ray playback is phenomenal on my Bravia 40" LCD through HDMI, which I bought a couple of years ago. I can only imagine what this would look like on a 120hz TV - the colors, motion, and detail are incredible on this 60hz TV as-is.

The award-winning sony navigation menu is present on this player, just like their TVs and the PS3, so features are easy to find, logical to use, and nice to look at. Updates are incredibly simple, and the number of features/services present in the player are much more robust than I would have thought - from online video to radio and free movie content.

This brings me to the Netflix playback: perfect. I’ve made more use of my Netflix subscription in the past 3 weeks than I had in the past 6 months, quite honestly. In fact, I canceled my cable package and brought it down to basic, since I have PLENTY of on-demand content through Netflix and Amazon’s Video On-Demand service which is present on here as well. That pays for the player simply out of a few months savings on my cable bill. I have the N460 hardwired directly to an AirPort Extreme, and I have absolutely no issues with video lag, syncing, or load times in general.

All in all, I would highly suggest this player. No issues as of yet, great video playback/quality, and a ton of extra features/content that really add to the overall value here.
